Equipment in Your Apartment
Wi-Fi Access Point (AP)
This is your Wi-Fi access point which allows your wireless devices to connect to the internet. It is attached to your ceiling in a central location to ensure adequate coverage in your unit. Depending on your apartment's hardware needs, you may have a mixture of access point styles available.
Optical Network Terminal (ONT)
This is your Haywire fiber router, or ONT. This device converts the incoming fiber optic connection to be used by your devices. It is installed in a networking enclosure inside your apartment, typically in a closet or laundry room.

Your ONT is located in an enclosure, which is usually in a closet or laundry room.
Connecting to Your Wi-Fi
Network Frequencies
Your equipment will broadcast your network across two different frequency bands: 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz. Your devices should dynamically take advantage of both bands to ensure high speeds throughout your apartment, but some legacy and smart home devices may have trouble getting connected initially. To help with compatibility in these situations, we recommend temporarily disabling your 5 GHz band.
Connecting a Wired Device
Inside of your enclosure there is an ethernet cord, which is not plugged into anything, coming through a hole in the top of the enclosure. To use this ethernet cord to connect a wired device you have a couple of options:
- Buy a RJ45 Ethernet Coupler to allow you to plug in your own ethernet cable.
- Setup a network switch and plug the unplugged ethernet cord in your enclosure into the switch. This will give you access to multiple ethernet ports.
- Rent a Wi-Fi Mesh AP from Haywire for 10$ a month. The Mesh will give you access to an ethernet port on the back.
Managing Your Wi-Fi in the eero App
You can download the eero app to manage and check the status of your Wi-Fi network. The eero app allows you to:
- Restart your network
- Change the Wi-Fi network name and password
- Add a guest network
- See the devices connected to the network
- Run speed tests
- Apply the latest software updates on your schedule

Restarting Your Equipment
