If your internet is working, but noticeably slower than usual across every device in your home, here's how to get to the bottom of it.
Not the right article?
- If you have no connection at all, see "My Internet Is Completely Down."
- If only one specific device is affected while others work fine, see "One Device Is Slow or Won't Connect."
Step 1: Run a speed test
Before troubleshooting, it helps to confirm what speeds you're actually getting. See articles "Speed Tests – An Overview" and "Speed Tests - Performing an Accurate Test" for the best way to test.
Step 2: Check for a VPN
If anyone in your home is using a VPN on any device, that can sometimes slow things down for the whole network. Try turning it off and testing again. See "Using a VPN with Haywire" article for more VPN information.
Step 3: Restart your equipment
- Find your Haywire access point — the white box typically mounted on your wall or ceiling.
- Unplug its power cable from the wall outlet.
- Wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Give it 2-3 minutes to fully restart, then run another speed test.
Still slow after restarting?
In rare cases, a persistent network-wide slowdown can point to a physical connection issue that needs a closer look from our team. Please submit a request with your speed test results, and we'll take it from there.
