Most connectivity issues can be resolved with a quick restart. Every Haywire location has at least an access point, and many locations also have additional networking equipment — housed in a separate network enclosure — that may need a restart too. Here's how to do both.
Note: Some properties have their own specific restart guide with extra steps unique to their equipment layout — check the "Learn About Your Property" section to see if yours has one. Otherwise, the general steps below apply to any Haywire setup.
Step 1: Restart your access point
- Locate your access point — the white box typically mounted on your wall or ceiling.
- Check for anything plugged into the ports on the underside of the unit. If there's anything connected that doesn't need to be, unplugging it can help the restart go smoothly.
- Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
- Wait 30 seconds. This matters — plugging it back in too quickly can prevent a full reset.
- Plug it back in and give it 2-3 minutes to fully restart. You'll typically see the light cycle through a few states before settling into solid white or blue.
- Test your connection on a device once the light looks normal.
If there's no light at all, check your circuit breaker panel for a tripped breaker — a switch sitting in the middle position, not fully on or off — and flip it back if you find one, then try these steps again.
Step 2: If that doesn't help, restart your network enclosure
Some locations also have a network enclosure — a separate box housing additional equipment — usually found in a closet, utility area, or another central spot in the unit.
- Locate your network enclosure, if your unit has one.
- Unplug the power to the enclosure.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and give it a few minutes to fully restart.
- Test your connection again.
Not every property has a separate enclosure. If you can't find one, your access point is likely the only equipment in your unit, and Step 1 is all you need.
